One day during Carnaval this year, MGFI and I took a day trip to Ilha Grande (the big island), which is the largest and most popular island surrounding Angra dos Reis, RJ. For more information about how to find the ferry from the rodovaria (bus station) see the end of I Spy: A Look Back at Angra dos Reis.
Speaking of the ferry, here is a view from the inside on our way to Ilha Grande:
We arrived with a Carnaval bloco:

Once we disembarked we began to walk down a pathway past a church:

Turning to the right we saw this:

We stopped to join the others in the water here:

After that we headed into the forested parts of the island:

We stopped to to decide what to do next:

Onward we went to Saco do Céu:

Next we found the Aqueduct:

The walk away from the Aqueduct:

Back into the woods:

We were a little hot at that point, so we again hopped into the water:

After one last dip, we made our way back to the ferry:

On the return trip to Angra, we road on top of the ferry:

We watched the sunset from there:

We had an absolutely wonderful time in Ilha Grande. I would go back in a heartbeat and you should visit too if you get the chance. It’s beautiful.
